did you know
that sexism goes both ways (◕‿◕✿)
and that men can also have problems with the way society treats them
and to say otherwise makes you really bigoted and honestly pretty stupid (◕‿◕✿)
did you know
that centuries-long institutionalized sexism doesn’t go both ways (◕‿◕✿)
and that a lot of the problems men have in society can be traced back to patriarchy, further exemplifying the fact that we need to break down the problem at the root (◕‿◕✿)
and that i really only responded to this post because i’ve always wanted an excuse to use this face (◕‿◕✿)
did you know
centuries-long is not now and feminism has done quite well in dealing with that, this post was just about sexism (≧◡≦)
and that indeed a lot of problems men have in society can be traced back to that, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the victim, also the fact that men aren’t supported in anything kinda makes men expendable (☞ﾟ∀ﾟ)☞
and that this post was about stating men ALSO have problems in society, therefore stating that women are not the ONLY ones, therefore stating everyone has problems and is allowed to defend themselves against oppression. and your addendum to this post just shows that you aren’t willing to accept that sexism goes both ways by definition. i guess men just have to “man up” because “they can just deal with it” hmm not sexist at all (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ
alright first of all let’s ditch the passive aggressive annoying ass fucking smiley thingies
let’s get some stuff straight cause i think i know what you’re saying but you’re using words incorrectly and it’s gonna ruffle feathers so for the sake of clarity and correctness
- sexism refers to systematic institutionalised oppression. men do not experience that. men do not, by definition, experience sexism. men DO experience shitty stuff as a RESULT of sexism attributed to women, though this is not sexism attributed to men, this is shitty societal shittiness that comes as a result of the oppression of women.
- FOR INSTANCE: the idea of manning up that you pointed out. the implication in that is actually a positive: the idea that manning up/becoming a man is a positive strengthening attribute. yeah, it’s used to insult individual males, but in a broader sense the phrase suggests good things for dudes. the phrase ‘man up’ also carries the implication that not being a man is a weaker negative thing. it’s insulting men who are not masculine for being weak. the idea that being anything other than a masculine man is the consequence of the demonisation of femininity in our culture! it’s 100% a sexism against WOMEN thing.
- Nobody is denying that it’s shitty for men to be insulted like that. The problem is that:
i) the insults still come as a result of sexism and so it’s still a women’s issue, even if it appears in that instance to be targeting a man
ii) sexism/patriarchy is an institution created by males!! if us men don’t want to be insulted on the basis of our gender like that we should work to stop demonising femininity, stop equating anything female with negative/weak/bad things, stop saying/doing sexist oppressive shit!!!
